About IEC 61496-1 (Electro-Sensitive Protective Equipment)

This hands-on workshop builds applied knowledge and team exercises around the certification requirements of IEC 61496-1.

IEC 61496-1 gives the general requirements for electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE): the functional, design and environmental requirements plus the type classification (Type 2/3/4) that determines which PL/SIL applications a device can serve.

What it regulates

ESPE behavior on detection and on fault, periodic testing, response times, indication, and the type-dependent fault detection requirements; part 1 pairs with technology parts for specific sensing physics.

ESPE manufacturers certifying devices; integrators selecting device Type consistent with the function's PLr.
